Refuge (Host Bodies feat. Containher)

about

"Refuge" is the first single from Host Bodies and Containher. Written during the pandemic, a time of deep reflection for all of us, the track tells a story from the perspective of someone left alone to wander a library of personal memories. Taking refuge among the books, all the unplanned moments in life emerge as experiences too priceless to trade.

Containher's soulful lyrics and warm, ethereal vocals rise and fall over the downtempo electronic production. A strong triphop breakbeat layered with jazz-inspired percussion carries antique autoharp recordings, fuzzy synths, and a psychedelic bass solo to a lush plateau supported by live cello. The track was mixed & mastered by Count Eldridge (DJ Shadow, Tycho, Thievery Corporation).

A natural collaboration formed between Containher and Host Bodies after playing at Starcrash, SF's electronic music residency at DNA Lounge in early 2020. Almost two years later, the first of many more tracks arrives just as both artists return to live shows.

Refuge - lyrics by Containher

Ooohhh

I can’t recall
A time back when
It was exactly the way I planned

Cause we are all beholden to the changes — yeah

Yeah we all we unfold through many phases — yeah
But not exactly the way we planned

We are all stories, walking memories

I know a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders
And for him happiness is a long lost postcard — yeah
All the lovely people, and all the lovely scenes
They’re all long long gone now but he sees them in his dreams

Was it exactly the way you planned? Or better?
We unfold through many phases — yeah

Let us cherish all the pages
They are sand — but with echoes of the ages time left behind
Was it exactly the way you planned, or better?

All that’s passed
Said he’d never want to trade it

Was it exactly the way you planned, or better?
Said he’d never want to trade it

All the lovely people, and all the lovely scenes
They’re all long long gone now but he sees them in his dreams

Was it exactly the way you planned, or better?

Trade it…

Said he’d never want to trade it, trade it…
